NAFE Membership Levels and annual dues

Member Benefits

The services that NAFE members receive include:

• Access to the online NAFE Directory - Search for other members.
• A subscription to The Journal of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers, which publishes papers by NAFE Members on a variety of issues of concern to practicing forensic engineers. All members and affiliates have immediate free online access to every NAFE Journal paper published since 1984.
• Become a published author in the NAFE Journal
• Invitation to attend NAFE seminars, held at least semi-annually. NAFE seminars provide an opportunity to meet directly with other forensic engineering practitioners and receive counsel and advice from Academy officers, and members, and receive continuing education credit.
• Access to the NAFE1 Discussion Group which was formed by the members of NAFE to exchange forensic engineering information. The goal of the NAFE1 Discussion group is to improve and advance the practice of Forensic Engineering.
• Participation in the NAFE Mentoring Program, either as a Mentor or Mentee.

To qualify for full membership, a candidate must be a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.). The candidate must have appropriate engineering education and experience in practice, including actual experience in forensic engineering. In addition, the candidate must provide acceptable detailed references from attorneys, senior claims managers or NAFE members who are personally familiar with his or her forensic practice and experience. Forensic engineers working towards the requirements of full membership may qualify to become an Associate Member of NAFE.

For those persons new to NAFE or who are not yet eligible for full membership or Associate grade, the following affiliations are available:

Benefits of Board Certification

NAFE Members, Senior Members and Fellows are Board Certified in Forensic Engineering through the Council on Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB). The CESB was formed by national engineering technical and professional societies, the state examining boards who license professional engineers and the accreditation board which governs the university engineering curricula.

All NAFE Members, Senior Members and Fellows are Board Certified Diplomates in Forensic Engineering through NAFE. Associate Members and Affiliates are not Board Certified Diplomates and are not permitted to use the designation.

Continuing Professional Competency (CPDs)

NAFE Members keep track of their continuing education and report their data to NAFE each year. A minimum of 100 hours accumulated over the past five years is required to maintain good standing. Seminars, training, self-study, publishing engineering articles and books, and NAFE leadership activities all qualify for credit.
